Reiki and EFT

I have incorporated EFT and Reiki healing.

I find it to be the final touch after an EFT session, especially at night. Reiki is such an important part of my life that I use it at every moment I wish to be more in balance.

Reiki healing is very beautiful and relaxing. When I am doing Reiki, I usually use some Reiki music, that is music for the soul, transmitting vibrations of Peace and Love.

Reiki is an healing art, a very harmonic technique of laying on of hands and channeling healing energies on the Chakra points of the body.

The energy transmitted through the Reiki hand positions brings balance to the body, mind and spirit, treating the source of mental and physical diseases.

In Japanese, the word Reiki means universal, holy, spiritual consciousness.

The word Ki means energy, life force, vital force that animates all the living things. From this we can tell that the word Reiki means “the universal and holy spiritual conscious, life force energy that energises and animates all living things".

Reiki is just like air, it is everywhere and belongs to everyone.

Reiki History

Reiki has always existed and used. It was rediscovered and developed by Dr. Mikao Usui (1912-1926). It is an energetic healing art that usually is passed from the Master to the student through an attunement.

During the ceremony, the healing energy is transmitted, awakening the student to use this power.

There are different theories about the history of Reiki. Dr. Usui is said to have been a Christian or a Buddhist Minister in Japan. One day, a student asked him if he believed in Jesus’ power to heal people and if he knew how he did it.

Dr. Usui began a spiritual journey to find out more about the way in which Jesus had healed. He went to study in some Christian schools in the USA, to learn about Jesus, but with no results.

Then he studied Buddhistic writings, because he also knew that the Buddha had healed people. He lived many years in a monastery in the Orient, but could not find the answer. After a few more years of studying, he came to the insight that he would need to meditate for 3 weeks, while fasting on Mount Kurama.

He collected 21 stones to count, one for every day that passed. When the 20th day had passed, he still had not found the answer. That night, it is said, he saw a light coming towards him. The light hit his forehead. At this time, the symbols of Reiki were revealed to him. They were the same Tibetan symbols that he had been studying, but without understanding. From that moment, he was able to heal and to perform miracles.

What really happened, is that Usui experienced a sudden flash of deep understanding, a Satori, about how a particular aspect of the vital life force energy, already flowing within him, could easily be accessed and used for healing.

Dr. Usui now wanted to help others. He spent several years helping sick beggars in Tokyo, also sending them to a priest that could help them find employment to get out of poverty. After some years, he began to notice that the same people that he had healed came back. They found that it was easier to beg for money than to work. They had thrown away the Gift of Health, not wanting to be out of their comfort zone. Dr.Usui realized that he had not taught them the Gift of Gratitude.

He had focused on the physical illness of these people, not considering the spiritual matters. He went back to the monastery for more insights and it was at this point that he created the Reiki Principles, beginning to heal people both on the physical and spiritual level.

Reiki Principles

At his death in 1926, Usui had initiated 16 people as Reiki Masters and had charged Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, one of his most dedicated students, with the responsibility of preserving and developing the Reiki teachings.

Dr. Hayashi opened the first Reiki clinic in Tokyo and he developed the twelve Reiki hand positions that are in use today. He also refined the attunement process, dividing it into the three levels. It is not known how many people Dr. Hayashi attuned to Reiki. The Second World War was coming and he decided to attune two women to Reiki, because he feared that many of the men that he had attuned might lose their lives in the war. He wanted to be sure that Reiki would survive, so he trained his wife and Mrs. Hawayo Takata.

Mrs.Takata was born in Hawaii, on Kauai, in 1900. She was of Japanese descent. In 1935, during a visit in Japan, her health seriously deteriorated. She was to go to the hospital to be operated upon. But she had the insight that operation wasn’t necessary and asking for another solution, she arrived knowing about the clinic of Dr. Hayashi. Mrs. Takata got healed from cancer at the clinic and wished to be trained in Reiki to help other people.

Mrs Takata’s training began with her taking the First Degree initiation. She then spent one year with Dr. Hayashi and was given the Second Degree initiation. Mrs. Takata returned to Hawaii and continued using and teaching Reiki, opening a clinic. In 1938, Dr. Hayashi travelled to Hawaii, and to ensure the continuance of Reiki, he initiated Mrs. Takata as a Reiki Master. Dr. Hayashi declared Mrs. Takata to be the Grand Master in 1941, just before his death. Mrs. Takata did not teach other masters until 1975. Before her own death in 1980, she had trained 22 Reiki Masters.
